Andrew Buchel, PhD, Senior Research Manager
Andrew Buchel, is a Senior Research Manager at PRA Inc. He graduated in 1999 with a Bachelor of Science, in 2002 with a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Economics, and in 2003 with a Master of Arts in Economics. He has since finished his PhD in Economics at the University of Manitoba. His thesis work examined the concept, measurement, and consequences of social capital.
While at PRA, Andrew has gained considerable project management experience. Many of his projects have been long-term and methodologically complex, using economic techniques such as statistical matching, difference-in-differences, logit-regression modelling, and limited treatment analysis. He has also been involved in small-scale stated choice experimental work and decision analysis including the use of Markov modelling and micro-simulation. Further, he has used his quantitative skills to examine the cost-effectiveness of a variety of programs and initiatives. In many cases, these analyses have taken place in situations where data are limited and unconventional analytical approaches are required.
In addition, Andrew has worked in a variety of field settings throughout Canada, including First Nation communities and various rural and remote locations—including each of Canada's three territories. He has consulted with numerous government and non-governmental representatives across the country, and facilitated discussions with clients of government programming and non-governmental organizations.
Andrew is a member of the Canadian Evaluation Society, the Canadian Economics Association, and the Manitoba Association of Business Economists.
