Derek Hum, PhD, Consulting Associate
Synopsis
Derek Hum is a professor of Economics with the Faculty of Arts and Adjunct Professor with the Faculty of Management of the University of Manitoba. He is also a Fellow of St. John's College, University of Manitoba. Derek has been recognized with various academic honours including the 1986 Rh Institute Award for Outstanding Contributions to Scholarship and Research in the Social Sciences. He has written extensively and has had published many books, monographs, and articles in numerous areas of economics. His latest article (with Norman Cameron and Wayne Simpson) is entitled "Is Hypoinflation Good Policy?".
Derek's previous position was Research Director of Mincome Manitoba. Mincome Manitoba was a multi-million, multi-year project jointly funded by Canada and Manitoba designed to evaluate the economic and administrative consequences of a guaranteed annual income system. The focus of the project was on the work responses of families and individuals to a negative income tax plan. Also of interest were administrative costs and delivery mechanisms.
